Maryland has expanded two existing vehicle laws that affect drivers. These updates are effective on October 1, 2022 and will make Maryland roadways safer to save lives. Make sure you and your friends and family are aware of the changes.
Child Passenger Safety
The new Child Passenger Safety Law states that children must be kept in rear-facing child seats until they reach two years of age, unless the child meets or exceeds the height and weight restrictions on the seat’s guidelines. Move Over Law
The new Move Over Law requires drivers to move over or reduce speed when approaching any vehicle stopped on the side of the road -regardless of whether the stopped vehicle is an emergency vehicle. If a vehicle on the shoulder is displaying emergency lights, hazard warning, lights, road flares, or other caution signals, drivers are required to move over if safely possible or to reduce speed.
