BALTIMORE (April 2, 2019) – In response to media inquiries, the Maryland Auto Insurance Fund reviewed its records and discovered that the organization’s former Executive Director authorized the issuance of a check in the amount of $7,500 “payable to Healthy Holly, LLC, 326 St. Paul Place, Suite 300, Baltimore, MD 21202 for its outreach program with the Associated Black Charities” on August 20, 2012. The Board of Trustees of the Maryland Auto Insurance Fund and the former Executive Director parted ways in 2015. The current Board of Trustees and executive team were unaware of the payment until today.
The Maryland Auto Insurance Fund also discovered a payment, authorized by the former Executive Director, to Associated Black Charities in the amount of $5,000 on August 23, 2013. Maryland Auto is unaware of any connection between this donation to Associated Black Charities and Healthy Holly. Additional research is being conducted to ascertain whether any other payments were made to these entities.
Immediately following the discovery of these payments, Maryland Auto reported the information to its regulatory body, the Maryland Insurance Administration. Maryland Auto will cooperate in any review conducted by the MIA.
The current Executive Director of the Maryland Auto Insurance Fund, Mark D. McCurdy, has been in the role since 2015 and has instituted a community outreach philosophy focused on educating consumers about the importance of insurance and Maryland Auto’s mission of making insurance available to all Maryland drivers.
