Spotlight on Erin Lewis

This month we highlight Erin Lewis from Goosehead Insurance based in Millersville, Maryland

Erin Lewis is the owner and risk advisor of the largest Goosehead Insurance franchise on the east coast (outside of Florida). Through sophisticated technology, customized policies, and expert advice from a local agent her independent brokerage is simplifying insurance for families around the country.

I started in the insurance industry when I was 18 years old going to college at St. Mary’s College of Maryland,” says Erin. “Funny enough, I needed money to pay for car insurance and ended up getting a position as a receptionist with State Farm Agent, Phil Riehl in Lexington Park, MD.  I worked for him for six years.  Each year in college I got licensed in a different line of business and when I graduated worked for Phil full time for two years before moving into a leadership position in the Southern Maryland area.”

Erin has been working with Maryland Auto since at least 2008 when she opened her first agency. “Maryland Auto has been a Godsend for difficult to place clients who have challenging driving records or could otherwise not get insurance elsewhere.”

She says that a lot of people have run into hard times financially and need to make a decision between putting food on the table, keeping a roof over their head, or paying the car insurance they need in order to get to their job. “When customers run into challenges and their insurance lapses for an extended period of time, the standard market severely limits their ability to get coverage.  Maryland Auto has been a great solution during these times of rebuilding driving history. Knowing that they can get coverage and get to work to make ends meet for their families is huge.  We know that Maryland Auto is a stepping stone to moving back into the standard insurance market and we’re grateful for the option to place coverage.”

Erin believes that giving back to the community is one of the most important things that we can do in our lives. Winston Churchill words, “We make a living by what we get, but we make a life by what we give,” is a core philosophy of her agency.

“I believe it is imperative to support the community that supports us. Over the years our company has participated in annual food drives/Harvest for the Hungry, turkey drives at Thanksgiving (supporting the Ruth M. Kirk Rec Center in Baltimore), toy drives at Christmas supporting local families in Anne Arundel County, Bras for a Cause/Red Devils that supports families dealing with breast cancer locally, Fish For A Cure, helping the Cancer Survivorship Program at Luminis Health Anne Arundel Medical Center’s Geaton and JoAnn DeCesaris Cancer Institute, and Life of Joy Foundation helping families in Anne Arundel County dealing with mental health and suicide prevention.  I also started my own non-profit that ran for a decade that helped teen girls and women develop career and leadership skills throughout Southern Maryland.
